Inspirations: Missin’ Out
Missin’ Out grew from a simple idea: some experiences only reveal themselves when we give them enough time and attention. Wine became the underlying metaphor because it can be tasted quickly, yet truly understood only through patience, texture, development, and context.
My intention was to make the song work the same way. On the surface, it is sensual, playful, and deliberately provocative. Beneath that, it is about impatience, shallow perception, and the richness people overlook when they rush toward an immediate reaction.
I took more risks with the writing and filled it with double entendres for listeners who pay attention. The language of breathing, opening, body, tension, weight, and finish can be heard one way at first, then reveal another meaning once the metaphor becomes clear. That ambiguity is part of the experience.
The music follows the same approach. The sparse verses feel thin and impatient, while the choruses arrive with greater weight, warmth, and depth. The arrangement asks the listener to wait for the payoff rather than receive everything at once.
Ultimately, Missin’ Out is about more than wine. It is about what we fail to notice in music, art, people, and life when we move too quickly to comprehend what is actually in front of us.
