No Name
Overview
Released Sunday, October 4, 2026
Some songs take a while before I understand why I wrote them.
No Name started with a wine. Months later, I realized I had somehow written something about the path I was already taking.
The track was inspired by Borgogno No Name Langhe Nebbiolo, a wine I tasted earlier this year. The original idea was fairly simple: take what I was perceiving in the glass and see where those sensations went when translated into imagery and sound.
The result was a low, warm, almost wandering track. Dust, dried roses, chalk, an old red wall, hills disappearing into the distance.
Then came the line:
There’s no name for the life I lead. Yet.
That line means more to me now than when I first wrote it.
VinoZen has gone in directions I never planned for. Wine education became writing. Writing moved into music. Music led further into perception, sensory experiences, design, physical products and ideas that are still taking shape.
I don't really have a clean name for what that path is anymore.
I keep walking.

Inspiration
Borgogno No Name has a great story behind it.
In 2008, one of Borgogno's wines was rejected by the Barolo tasting commission. They submitted another sample of the same wine and it passed.
Same wine.
Different judgement.
Instead of letting that first rejection define it, Borgogno released the wine as No Name.
I already liked that attitude before even getting into what was in the glass.
When I tasted it, I remember muted dried strawberry, rose petals, dry violets, dirt and chalk. There was warmth through the aroma and palate. The tannin had real weight, ripe and smooth, but seemed to disappear into the palate after the first few sips.
I wrote at the time that it felt like Barolo level wine, just not the label.
Approachable, but never simple.
That became the landscape of the song.
The dried floral character became a dry rose wind.
The earth and chalk became dust on my shoes and chalk on my hands.
The warmth became the night air.
The tannin became something quietly held underneath.
And somewhere in my head there was this old red wall running beside a dirt road through the hills.
A person walking beside it.
No destination shown.
Just walking.
I wanted the music to stay minimal too. A deep baritone voice, close and intimate, with very little language. Repetition, humming and melisma carry most of it. The words appear almost like thoughts surfacing while walking.
The hook came from the wine's name:
No name
for the life I lead
yet.
At first, that belonged to the wine.
Now it feels strangely autobiographical.
Over the last few months I have watched VinoZen keep changing. I followed ideas because they made sense to me even when I couldn't quite explain where they belonged yet. Some became music. Some became SenArch. Some became design. Some became entirely new projects.
There wasn't really a map for any of it.
Even the line “The path none taken / still feels like mine” came almost subconsciously when I was writing the song.
Looking back at it now, that may be the entire point.
I still don't know exactly where this goes.
There’s no name for the path I take.
Yet.
Lyrics
Mmm
No
Mmm no
No no no
No no no
Ooh oh oh
Low red wall
Dust on my shoes
Warm night air
Nothing to prove
Dry rose wind
Chalk on my hands
Road keeps turning
Into the hills again
Mmm no
Still walking
Mmm no
Still warm
No
No no
No no no
Ooh oh oh
Name
For the life I lead
Yet
Yet
Yet yet
No name
Ah mmm
No ah
Ooh oh oh
Soft tannin weight
Held underneath
Old world silence
Breathing with me
No signs now
No straight lines
Just my shadow
Keeping stride
No
No no
No no no
Ooh oh oh
Name
For the life I lead
Yet
Yet
Yet yet
No name
Mmm
The path none taken
Mmm
Still feels like mine
No
Mmm
No
No no
No no no
Ooh oh oh
Name
For the life I lead
Yet
Yet
Yet yet
No name
Mmm
