Riesling ARIA IV: Le Voleur de Temps
Overview
Released August 23, 2026
Riesling Aria IV: Le Voleur de Temps continues the story of Liesel and Riesling, nearly a year after the release of Riesling Aria III: Er Antwortet Nicht.
Where the previous aria was shaped by absence and unanswered longing, Le Voleur de Temps turns toward something more unsettling: what happens when time changes one of them, but seems unable to touch the other.
Liesel grows older. The world changes around her. Yet Riesling remains suspended between youth, memory and preservation.
The result is an emotional operatic meditation on aging, acidity, memory, resentment, and acceptance on the strange ability of wine to carry something forward long after the moment that created it has disappeared.

Inspiration
At the heart of Le Voleur de Temps (The Thief of Time) is one of Riesling’s most remarkable characteristics: its ability to evolve dramatically while retaining an almost defiant structural identity. It is also a wine around which a sort of love-hate relationship exists, shaped in part by the common misconception that Riesling can be neatly defined by a single style, usually sweetness, despite its extraordinary versatility.
Fruit changes. Colour deepens. Aromas move from youth toward maturity. Yet the acidity can remain astonishingly alive.
That tension became the emotional architecture of the song, and by extension, one of the foundations of the Riesling Opera Project.
Liesel experiences time as erosion.
Riesling experiences time as transformation.
She becomes winter, exposed branches and weathered stone.
He becomes summer trapped inside glass, buried sunlight, gold refusing to sleep.
The contrast eventually becomes personal. When Liesel looks into what she has preserved, she no longer sees only wine. She sees memory: the young woman she once was, still vivid somewhere inside the amber.
The title, Le Voleur de Temps — The Thief of Time, comes from that resentment.
Riesling has not simply survived time.
To her, it seems to have stolen it.
And yet the final movement is not rejection.
It is surrender to something she has yet to fully understand.
If the wine can carry memory longer than the body can, then perhaps she can leave something of herself there too.
This aria also became unexpectedly personal for me while I was creating it. I teared up countless times throughout the entire production: while developing the lore, while shaping the track, and again while building the music video. Different moments kept catching me as the story became more complete.
What began as an exploration of Riesling, acidity, aging, and preservation gradually became something much more human: the fear of losing who we once were, the strange persistence of memory, and the hope that something of us might remain after the moment itself has passed.
Lyrics
Opening
Le miroir ment.
The mirror lies.
L'eau de la rivière coule et ne revient jamais.
The river flows and never returns.
Tout ce qui vit doit faner.
Everything that lives must fade.
C’est la loi de la terre.
It is the law of the earth.
Mais toi…
But you…
Toi, tu as triché.
You cheated.
Verse I
Je suis l’hiver qui approche.
I am the approaching winter.
Mes branches sont nues, mon écorce se fend.
My branches are bare, my bark is splitting.
Je suis la pierre qui s’effrite sous le vent.
I am the stone crumbling beneath the wind.
Mais toi…
But you…
Tu es l'été enfermé dans le verre.
You are summer imprisoned inside the glass.
Tu es le soleil que j'ai enterré vivant.
You are the sun I buried alive.
Tu n'as pas de rides.
You have no wrinkles.
Tu n'as pas de gris.
You have no grey.
Tu es l'or qui refuse de dormir.
You are the gold that refuses to sleep.
Verse II
J'ai changé.
I have changed.
Le monde a tourné mille fois.
The world has turned a thousand times.
Les empires sont tombés, les roses sont mortes.
Empires have fallen, roses have died.
Mais à l'intérieur de ta cage de cristal…
But inside your crystal cage…
Le temps s'est arrêté.
Time stopped.
Cette colonne vertébrale froide…
That cold spine…
Ce fil d'argent qui te tient debout…
That silver thread that keeps you standing…
Il ne courbe jamais.
It never bends.
Pourquoi le temps me dévore-t-il moi,
Why does time devour me,
Et te laisse-t-il intact ?
And leave you untouched?

Bridge
Je regarde au fond de ta lumière.
I look deep into your light.
Je vois un fantôme.
I see a ghost.
Une jeune fille qui court dans la lumière dorée.
A young girl running through the golden light.
Elle rit.
She laughs.
Elle est moi.
She is me.
Tu as volé mon visage d'autrefois.
You stole the face I once had.
Tu l'as gardé dans ton ambre.
You kept it inside your amber.
Je suis devenue l'ombre
I have become the shadow
de ma propre création.
of my own creation.
Final
Petit Dieu…
Little God…
Monstre de lumière.
Monster of light.
Quand je ne serai plus que poussière et silence,
When I am nothing more than dust and silence,
Tu brilleras encore.
You will still shine.
Tu ne connais pas la mort.
You do not know death.
Tu ne connais que l'attente.
You know only waiting.
Je te laisse mon âme.
I leave you my soul.
Garde-la au frais.
Keep it cool.
Garde-laaaaaaa…
Keep it…
pour toujours.............
forever…
