Blind on the Hill
Blind on the Hill is one of the first lyrical tasting notes by VinoZen Music — a style of my own creation. It sings of the identity of the wine that inspired my last release - Upon This Hill.

Inspiration: Blind on the Hill
What began as a name for a wine, "Upon This Hill," quickly evolved into something more: an entire philosophy. It’s the idea that wine should be appreciated for what it is—nothing more, nothing less—stripped of the ego, money, and prestige that often follow.
This philosophy became the true inspiration, and it needed its own 'tasting note' in the form of a song. I found the perfect framework in the blind tasting portion of international sommelier competitions, which became the song's structural baseline. From that concept, four distinct personas emerged, each sharing their unfiltered sensory experience of the wine. You will see more of them.
Lyrics
Gabe
Colour leans to blood—but the rim stays tight
Rust creeps in where young reds fight
Legs fall slow—this wine don’t dash
It broods… not sprints—it’s built to last
The nose commands with tar and rose
Then leather where the forest grows
No jam, no gloss, no candied trick—
Just armour, worn, and iron-thick
Rénée
Red fruit recalled… like dusk on skin
I breathe it deep—and fall within
A violet flash, a galaxy cracked
Each swirl recalls what never came back
Cherry dry as lips in frost
And rose that sings of something lost
This is scent with a memory bruise—
A wine that haunts… and makes you choose
Julian
Ava
Nose hits you hard—but it don’t lie
Like truth caught in a goodbye
Like wood still warm from morning sun
A room you left—but not the run
No tricks. No twist. Just time and smoke
A whisper held inside the oak
It’s incense, breath, and quiet heat—
Like finding God in a kitchen seat
Gabe
Acid strikes like a knight’s first swing
Tannin dry—like a weathered ring
The grip is tight, but shaped with pride—
You bleed, then bow, then drink what’s tried
Alcohol? A steady thrum
Not fire, but it softly hums
The body’s lean, but holds its weight—
A steel-shod truth you can’t debate
Rénée
Elle fond, puis mord, douce et cruelle
Une peine exquise qui m'ensorcelle
Le tanin glisse, une caresse de soie
Qui porte en lui un tendre émoi
L'acide commence une lente romance
Un espoir fragile, sa dernière chance
Elle fleurit, puis s'efface soudain
Une blessure au parfum serein.
Julian
Tannin’s tight, like a vow unsaid
Dry as ink on pages dead
This wine's raised on mountain air,
A monk’s last prayer still hanging there.
Acid sharp, a sacred blade
A dusty tongue, a climb half-made
Each sip like steps through ancient light—
You rise… alone… but holding tight
Ava
It comes on strong—and finds its place
Like hands you swore you wouldn’t chase
The finish lingers, wide and slow—
A canyon echo, soft and low
The body’s taut but full of soul
Built on strength and self-control
It ain’t loud—it just runs deep
Like wounds that hum instead of weep
Non vinum sum, sacramentum sum.
